Sheltered Life

For nearly the past three years, Virginia Crowder has relied on shelters and social services near Moore Square in Raleigh, N.C., for support during her unemployment while she searches in an increasingly competitive job market for a supermarket position to replace the one she lost. The demand for homeless services in Raleigh is growing during the economic recession, and Crowder prays for a way out of her situation. As a mother of five children, two of whom she hasn't seen in almost thirteen years, Crowder hopes to earn money for transportation to visit them more often and to find a place to call home.
